Incredible Smiles Press Room

OVERVIEW

Based in Boulder, Colorado, Incredible Smiles has become a national leader in neuromuscular and cosmetic dentistry. Incredible Smiles was founded in 1993 by Dr. Lori Kemmet, DDS. Today, Incredible Smiles has more than 1,800 clients (Dr. Kemmet refers to them as "guests") including a number of celebrities. Incredible Smiles uses the most advanced dental technology including digital x-rays, 3D cone beam imaging, ultrasonic and laser therapy, composite fillings, porcelain crowns, inlays and veneers.

Renowned in the field of neuromuscular dentistry, Dr. Lori Kemmet has been practicing dentistry since 1989. The demand for Dr. Kemmet's expertise combined with her passion for the art of cosmetic dentistry has made her one of the most sought after cosmetic dentists in the country.

As of January 2010, she is the first female dentist and one of only twelve dentists in the world to be awarded the title of Mastership in the area of Neuromuscular and Cosmetic Dentistry from The Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI)*. LVI was founded in 1995 and is the world's premier postgraduate dental teaching center. LVI was established to educate, guide and support dentists in the delivery of the most advanced patient-based care possible.

Why Dr. Lori Kemmet and Incredible Smiles?
People choose Dr. Lori Kemmet for her skill, care, and passion. People also choose Dr. Kemmet for her ability to listen to their desires. She blends those desires with her own experience and recommendations. In addition to being a leader in cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Kemmet has designed her office differently from the traditional dental practice. She describes her office as soothing, elegant and private where the focus is on caring for the guest's entire experience, not just their smile.

When you step inside the door of Incredible Smiles, you will find noticeable differences from other dental practices. Privacy is important to our guests, so each guest is welcomed to their own suite where concerns or paperwork are handled confidentially. Our guests are treated with one-on-one care to ensure that they receive the most focused attention possible. While keeping the focus on exceptional dentistry, Incredible Smiles also offers the following services: paraffin hand waxing, reflexology, lip waxing, massage by a certified massage therapist, Bose® head phones, movie viewing, soft blankets and VIP express check-out during each visit.

Before any dental work is initiated, each guest has a complimentary cosmetic dentistry consultation. Usually about an hour in length, this is an ideal way to explore your goals and options for cosmetic and/or restorative dentistry. It is a time to get acquainted with our team, to possibly meet Dr. Kemmet and to see if this office is a fit for you.

Dr. Kemmet specializes in creating "incredible smiles" by combining her technical expertise with an artistic and skillful eye. What sets Dr. Kemmet apart is her unique approach to shaping and customizing each tooth. During a smile enhancement, Dr. Kemmet builds each tooth with composite and then reshapes, shortens or lengthens each tooth to be most flattering to the guest's face shape, eyes, smile, height and even lifestyle and personality. In other words, Dr. Kemmet doesn't rely on a laboratory to design a smile for her guests. Instead, she sees the process through its entirety, including staying in constant communication with an elite ceramist who is dedicated exclusively to her practice and makes custom veneers from only the finest materials available.

Cosmetic (aesthetic) Dentistry
Cosmetic dentistry is dental treatment that improves the beauty and health of one's smile and comprises a multitude of procedures from teeth whitening to veneers. Cosmetic dentistry can help anyone who desires to improve the quality of their smile, their oral health and their self-esteem. Because cosmetic dentistry is more affordable than it was a decade ago, more and more people are able to have cosmetic dental work performed.

Dr. Kemmet sees cosmetic dentistry as providing more than just beautiful smiles and healthy teeth; cosmetic dentistry is a way to improve a person's overall health and emotional well-being. According to The Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies*, an improved smile can boost self-image, making people more confident in their daily lives.

Cosmetic dental techniques have advanced dramatically over the last decade. The quality of ceramic and composite resins has improved, giving a more lifelike appearance to one's smile. Where once gum-tissue surgery and contouring was performed traditionally with scalpels, lasers now provide fast, non-surgical results. Reshaping irregular or excessive gum tissue is an important aspect of almost every smile enhancement that Dr. Kemmet provides.

Cosmetic dentistry is one of dentistry's fastest growing areas. Eighty-four percent of dentists now offer cosmetic procedures as part of their practices and half of these report a steady increase in the amount of cosmetic procedures performed over the last three years, according to an American Dental Association survey. Experts agree that the cosmetic dental industry will continue to see growth in future years. Ronald Goldstein, founder of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, estimates that half of the $70.3 billion spent annually on dental work in the United States is related to cosmetic procedures.

According to an American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry member poll:
    •    Veneers have increased by more than 250% in the past five years.
    •    Teeth whitening/bleaching has increased by more than 300% in the past five years.
    •    Direct bonding has increased by more than 100% in the past five years.

What is the Las Vegas Institute Mastership (LVIM)?
The Mastership award process was created by The Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI)*, to ultimately test and challenge the best dentists affiliated with LVI. In Dr. Kemmet's words "obtaining my Mastership was the best test of my skills and knowledge in all my years of education."
To apply for Mastership, a dentist must have completed the highest levels of training at LVI. She or he must submit three Full Mouth Restoration cases documented to exact specifications. One of the three cases must have been a person experiencing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain. Finally, a comprehensive written exam must be taken and passed with a score of 90% or higher. This examination acknowledges a dentist with advanced neuromuscular and cosmetic dental skills.

TMJ Relief with Full Mouth Restoration (neuromuscular dentistry)
Full Mouth Restoration, sometimes called neuromuscular dentistry, is the individual restructuring of each and every tooth. The goal of Full Mouth Restoration is to restore ideal occlusion (bite), therefore alleviating tension or pain from temporomandibular disease (TMD) or jaw joint problems. Neuromuscular dentistry is a practice founded on the belief that a healthy smile begins with healthy function. This treatment determines the optimal physiological position of the jaw by measuring the relaxed position of head and neck muscles. Anyone can experience neuromuscular problems. Typically, those who were born with poor jaw position or improper bite (malocclusion) begin to experience problems in their teen years. Others who have a history of teeth grinding may begin to have symptoms in their mid-40's or earlier. Problems that can be addressed with neuromuscular dentistry include broken or missing teeth, as well as decaying dentistry and joint pain.

Fortunately, there are effective ways to address such problems. Neuromuscular issues require a neuromuscular approach and solution. The facial muscles are first relaxed and then Dr. Lori Kemmet uses a computerized diagnosis called Myotronics to determine ideal occlusion. Treatment options include an orthotic which repositions the bite to an ideal position in much the same way as a bite guard. The other, more fixed solution is the ideal restoration of each tooth (Full Mouth Restoration).

Teeth Whitening
Incredible Smiles uses BriteSmile, the leading edge technology, to whiten teeth and enhance personal appearance and aesthetics. The BriteSmile Professional Teeth Whitening system consists of a gentle hydrogen-peroxide whitening gel activated by a "plasma-arc light" that does not rely on UV, heat or laser technology. Rather, it is a gentle, blue light that compliments the whitening gel to effectively whiten and brighten teeth in about an hour.
