Is Ignorance Bliss?

When it comes to mercury, ignorance is deadly. Mercury is the second most poisonous, naturally occurring substance on the planet. (First is plutonium) Mercury vapor is emitted from volcanoes, coal burning power stations, incinerators, and returns to the earth through rain contaminated with metallic mercury. It is methylated to methyl mercury in oceans and lakes and enters the food chain via fish and other seafood.

Are your teeth sensitive?

A good majority of the guests I've seen over the past 6 years have one or more teeth that are sensitive to a variety of stimulants.  It is also the number one complaint or concern that guests have.  Cold and hot liquids or food are the usual cause, however for some people it can even be chewing or simply touching the tooth. This can be challenging during a dental cleaning, for both the guest and the hygienist.  It is often hard for the guest to tell if the pain sensation is coming from their tissue or their tooth.

BPA free fillings

BPA free fillings

Here at Incredible Smiles we pride ourselves in using the best known materials on the market. BPA or Bisphenol-A is becoming a very well known substance to stay away from. Growing scientific evidence has linked the chemical to a host of problems, including cancer, sexual dysfunction and heart disease. Federal officials say they are particularly concerned about BPA's effect on the development of fetuses, infants and young children.

Mmmmmmm..... Summer produce at the Boulder Farmer’s Market

It’s that time of year again. All the locals are headed down to the Boulder Farmer’s Market to indulge in the amazing selection of freshly picked treats. Rhubarb, beets, strawberries, peaches, squash blossoms, green beans, bok choy, and the list goes on. I look forward to summer produce all year long, not to mention seeing the entire community outside enjoying the sun and Boulder Creek.

Can flossing prolong our lives?

Let's face it, flossing is a nuisance to most of the population, but the research is proving more and more that the daily task can prolong our lives.  The bacteria which hides in between our teeth and below our gums is being linked to cardiovascular disease, low birth weight babies, diabetes, and many other scary conditions.

In modern dentistry , the need for more advanced imaging techniques is constantly growing.  Dr. Lori Kemmet and her team are happy to announce the acquisition of the Planmeca ProMax digital x-ray unit.  This is the most advanced hybrid 2D/3D unit which provides us accurate visualisation of anatomy.

Oral Sex May Increase Your Risk Of Oral Cancer!

I was recently informed of this information via the radio on my drive home. Although the BBC thinks the link to be true but not very alarming, ABC has a completely different take. “Today more than 34,000 people have oral cancer and 39 percent of those cases are related to HPV.”

Since this is a sexually transmitted disease, any oral sex can spread the HPV to the mouth, where it disrupts healthy cells and causes them to be unable to repair themselves and unable to duplicate properly.

Getting a Second Dental Opinion

Many of our first time guests coming in for a complimentary consultation are coming to see us for a second opinion about proposed dentistry. The reasons are vast and vary from something not feeling quite right to curiosity of Dr. Lori Kemmet and what we can accomplish here at Incredible Smiles.

Are you confused on how to proceed with dental care?

"I was told I'm not a candidate for Invisalign."

Hi Everyone,

Marijauna Haze Over Boulder

As the haze lifts over Boulder from the 4/20 festivities yesterday, we wanted to take a moment and look into the dental consequences of smoking the whacky tobacky.
