Do I need a Crown or Veneer?

Do I need a Crown or Veneer?

The difference between a crown and a veneer is in the amount of tooth structure that we can save. I love saving natural tooth structure and that is why I love veneers. Conservative dentistry is our focus.

Hello and welcome to IncredibleSmiles.com, my name is Dr. Lori Kemmet, founder and owner of Incredible Smiles. Many times when we are doing a consultation or an exam in my office people don’t understand the difference between a crown (or a cap) and a veneer.

The difference between a crown and a veneer is simply the amount of tooth structure that we can save. I love saving natural tooth structure and that is when I love doing a veneer. A veneer is really just an artificial covering over the front of a tooth and with the veneer we are able to leave the remaining back tooth structure of your tooth. It’s an artificial front and leaving the natural tooth structure on the back. With a crown we have to cover the whole entire tooth so the crown goes all the way down like a cap over the tooth all the way down to your gum tissue. The downside of having a crown done is that we are leaving that much tooth structure as we do with a veneers. A veneer is much more conservative and any time we can do that it is better.

So that’s the difference between a veneer and a crown. To discover more about the difference between those procedures visit on the web at IncredibleSmiles.com or to schedule your complimentary consultation call 303-499-0013
